Himachal Pradesh to earn Rs 400 crore from Rajasthan power sale

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the electricity agreement during a public meeting in Chamba district.

Himachal Pradesh will generate Rs 400 crore in revenue over the next four months through an agreement to sell electricity to Rajasthan, according to The Tribune and Hindustan Times. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated on Wednesday that the power will be sold at a rate of Rs 15.50 per unit.

Addressing a gathering at Bhanjraru Kala Manch in the Churah assembly constituency of Chamba district, Sukhu said the deal aims to strengthen the state's financial position. He also mentioned that the state is requesting the central government to increase its free power share in the 180-MW Baira-Siul Hydroelectric Project to 50 per cent after 44 years of operation.

The Chief Minister noted that the state secured a Rs 401 crore recovery in the Wildflower Hall case, which had been pending since 2003. He said the property is expected to produce about Rs 37 crore in annual revenue through e-auctioning after receiving no revenue for 23 years.

Regarding education, Sukhu said the government plans to open more than 100 new CBSE-affiliated schools across the state. He announced that senior secondary schools in Himgiri, Thalli, Jajjakothi, and Maroond will receive CBSE affiliation. He added that over 2,700 teachers have been recruited.

Sukhu accused the previous BJP government of establishing health and educational institutions without sufficient staff. He stated his government has worked to fill thousands of vacant teaching posts and rationalise institutions.
