Karnataka: CM urges private schools to partner with government institutions

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar launched the Namma Shaale Namma Javabdari programme to link 1,000 government schools with private institutions.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has called on private school managements to adopt or collaborate with government schools in rural areas to improve education quality and reduce migration to cities, according to The News Mill.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Namma Shaale Namma Javabdari’ (Our School, Our Responsibility) programme at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Shivakumar said the government aims to link 2,000 government schools with private institutions.

The initiative will initially target 1,000 government schools. To facilitate this, the state has divided 6,000 panchayats into three divisions.

Shivakumar stated that private schools can select government schools based on their financial capacity and convenience. Support may include providing expert teachers, paying salaries, donating lab materials, computers, or school buses.

The Chief Minister noted that the state has an annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of Rs 8,800 crore. He said he has requested companies to prioritise the development of rural primary schools.

School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said the state's public education system serves 1.12 crore students. He added that steps are being taken to recruit 18,000 teachers before the next academic year.
