Sri Lankan High Commission hosts Diwali event in New Delhi
The celebration brought together diplomats and business representatives to highlight the cultural connections between India and Sri Lanka.
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in India hosted a special event titled 'Diwali with Diplomats' in New Delhi to celebrate the festival of lights, according to ANI.
The event, named 'Diwali Dazzle Night 2026', took place on October 26 in partnership with the Delhi Study Group, the Global Trade and Technology Council of India (GTTCI), and Lions Club Delhi Veg.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Mahishini Colonne inaugurated the evening by lighting a ceremonial lamp alongside GTTCI President Gaurav Gupta.
Addressing the guests, Colonne said that informal gatherings help develop friendships and mutual understanding outside of official diplomatic work.
She noted that Deepavali is a national public holiday in Sri Lanka, especially for Hindu and Tamil communities, and described it as a festival that belongs to Sri Lanka as well.
The evening included traditional dances, music, handicrafts, and food from Old Delhi, featuring a sitar recital by an Israeli diplomat and a painting exhibition by an Iranian artist and her students.
