VTU to introduce on-demand examinations for students who failed subjects

The university will conduct exams based on student requests to prevent the loss of an academic year for those who miss or fail semesters.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has decided to implement an on-demand examination system for students who failed one or more subjects or could not attend scheduled semester exams, according to The Hindu.

The university will hold these exams at times requested by students, including on public holidays, even if only one student applies. This move aims to ensure students do not have to wait for supplementary examination schedules to be announced.

VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar told The Hindu that the initiative is intended to provide greater convenience to students and that all necessary preparations have been made.

The university plans to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to prepare question papers, utilizing an existing bank of 500-600 papers for each subject. Results for these on-demand exams will be announced within 24 hours of the test.

VTU, which oversees 220 engineering colleges and approximately three lakh students, is the first public university in the state to adopt this initiative. Previously, students who failed subjects had to wait six to seven months to reappear for exams.

The university has instructed all affiliated engineering colleges to inform students of this option. Details regarding the application process, eligibility, and schedules will be released shortly.
