GRSE delivers fifth anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft to Navy

The Kolkata-based shipyard handed over the vessel Amini, which is the 119th warship built by the defence PSU.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) delivered the Amini, a shallow water anti-submarine warfare craft, to the Indian Navy on Thursday, according to The Times of India.

The vessel is the fifth of eight such craft being constructed by the Kolkata-based defence PSU for the Navy. Amini marks the 81st warship delivered to the Navy and the 119th built by GRSE.

Designed for coastal operations, the 77.6-metre vessel features a 2.7-metre shallow draught for littoral missions. It is equipped with lightweight torpedoes, anti-submarine warfare rockets, and a 30mm naval surface gun manufactured by GRSE.

The warship uses marine diesel engines with waterjets for maneuverability and includes an advanced combat management system for sub-surface surveillance and attack missions. The craft contains 88 per cent indigenous content.

Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, VSM, CSO (Tech), Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, accepted the vessel. GRSE is currently working on 13 frontline naval platforms, including stealth frigates, corvettes, offshore patrol vessels, and more ASW-SWCs.

The shipyard is also constructing 36 other vessels, which include 13 platforms for export. On March 30, GRSE delivered three frontline naval platforms, Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray, to the Navy on a single day.
