Manoj Sinha calls for coordinated action to dismantle terror networks in prisons

The Lieutenant Governor requested a unified mechanism between police, intelligence agencies, and the Prisons Department to prevent radicalisation inside jails.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday called for a unified system involving the Police, Prisons Department, and intelligence agencies to bolster jail security. According to The Tribune, the move aims to stop radicalisation and the functioning of terror networks within prisons.

Sinha chaired a high-level review meeting of the Prisons Department at Lok Bhavan to discuss strengthening security and management protocols across Jammu and Kashmir. He directed officials to hold regular review meetings and share intelligence systematically to address potential law and order threats.

The Lieutenant Governor also suggested conducting surprise inspections of prison grounds and the surrounding areas. He further requested forensic examinations of any seized electronic devices.

During the meeting, officials discussed creating dedicated intelligence units in jails, implementing biometric systems, and expanding telemedicine for inmates. The meeting also addressed the need to increase human resources within the Prisons Department.

Sinha reviewed the construction of the upcoming high-security prison at Mahanpur. He instructed officials to speed up the remaining work to meet the required timelines.
