Devon Conway ruled out of India ODI series after training collision

The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter sustained a concussion during a fielding drill at Eden Park on Tuesday.

New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the ongoing five-match ODI series against India after sustaining a concussion during a training session on Tuesday. According to News18, the wicketkeeper-batter collided with fast bowler Matt Henry while both were attempting to take a catch during fielding practice at Eden Park.

Conway was taken to an Auckland medical facility for assessment following the incident. While Henry has been cleared of concussion and remains available for selection, Conway has not recovered sufficiently to continue in the series. Tim Seifert, who replaced Conway in the playing XI for the first ODI, scored 38 as India secured a five-wicket victory in a rain-affected match in Auckland.

Left-handed batter Nick Kelly, who was originally scheduled for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will join the squad in Wellington on Friday to replace Conway for the second ODI on Saturday. Dale Phillips has been called up to the New Zealand A squad to replace Kelly for the match against India A.

New Zealand's injury concerns include allrounder Rachin Ravindra, who is sidelined with a right shoulder issue, and Mark Chapman, who requires two weeks of rehabilitation for a left hamstring injury. Head coach Rob Walter said it is a shame the players are missing the series, noting that the team does not want to take undue risks with Ravindra's shoulder ahead of the Test series.

India currently leads the five-match series 1-0. The tour will conclude with two Test matches starting on November 19 in Wellington.
