Mike Hussey to take expanded role with Australian cricket team

The former batter will serve as a consultant coach and T20 advisor ahead of the 2027 Ashes and 2028 Olympics.

Former Australian batter Mike Hussey will take on an expanded role as a consultant coach for the national team, according to a report by India Today. Hussey will assist the team ahead of the 2027 Ashes and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

He will also serve as a T20 advisor as Australia prepares for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup cycle. His advisory duties will include player scouting, opposition analysis, campaign planning, and performance support.

Cricket Australia General Manager of National Teams Ben Oliver said Hussey brings substantial international experience, having represented Australia more than 300 times. Head coach Andrew McDonald also backed the appointment, stating that Hussey's knowledge across formats will complement the existing coaching group.

Hussey, who was part of England's coaching setup during their 2022 T20 World Cup win, said he is extremely excited about being part of the team in a more formal and meaningful role.

The former left-hander will begin his expanded role during Australia's T20I series against England later this month. He will also provide coaching assistance during the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.
