Bihar prohibits teachers and students from making reels in schools

The Bihar Education Department has issued new guidelines to protect student privacy and maintain discipline during class hours.

The Bihar Education Department has directed government school teachers and students to stop filming videos or creating reels for social media during class hours without prior permission, according to The Hindu. The department has also banned unauthorised outsiders from entering school campuses while classes are in session.

Vijay Kumar Pandey, Director (Administration) of the Bihar School Education Department, issued the regulation on November 4. He instructed District Education Officers (DEOs) and District Programme Officers (DPOs) to ensure compliance with the new rules.

The department stated that making reels during school hours can impact teaching and may infringe on the privacy of students. A senior department official told The Hindu that making reels with students during classroom activities is inappropriate and that violations could lead to disciplinary action.

Under the new rules, teachers and non-teaching staff may only use social media after getting written permission from controlling officers. Recording activities such as Independence Day celebrations, Republic Day celebrations, tree plantation drives, and cleanliness drives is allowed only with official approval.

The regulation also prohibits uploading content that is obscene, defamatory, or violates intellectual property rights. It further bans posts that could affect national or internal security.

This directive follows a previous order on October 30, which required all teachers and non-teaching staff to follow a formal dress code during teaching and office hours.
