Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh noted that early and widespread flowering in Shillong is expected to boost interest in the annual event.
Meghalaya is expecting a strong turnout for this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival, with the Tourism Department receiving inquiries from across India and abroad, according to The Shillong Times.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times on Thursday that the cherry blossoms have bloomed more extensively than last year. He said the early, widespread bloom across Shillong points to an exciting edition of the annual event.
The festival is one of Meghalaya’s flagship tourism events. The annual influx of international and domestic visitors generates demand for local restaurants, transport, hotels, and other allied businesses.
Lyngdoh did not provide the specific attractions or the schedule for the festival. He stated that he would share those details later.
The Minister said his current focus is on getting the ropeway project off the ground.
