Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya cites lack of accountability for team performance
The head coach expressed disappointment after Delhi secured a draw against Services to remain fifth in the Group C standings.
Delhi head coach Vijay Dahiya expressed disappointment following a draw against Services at the Air Force Complex Ground in Palam on Thursday. The result earned Delhi three points through a first-innings lead, bringing their total to seven points in the Group C standings.
According to The Indian Express, Delhi currently sits in fifth position. The team has not registered a win in the ongoing season, while Maharashtra, Bengal, and Gujarat lead the group with 19, 18, and 16 points respectively.
Dahiya said the team failed to dictate terms during the game despite taking important wickets in the first half. He noted that the team missed opportunities in previous matches, including a game against Gujarat where they failed to finish in a commanding position.
The coach stated that a lack of accountability among players who have been part of the setup for several seasons has compounded problems. He said it is important for players to deliver after being shown faith.
Dahiya also commented on captain Ayush Badoni, who has scored 559 runs this season. While acknowledging Badoni is smart, the coach said the 26-year-old sometimes lets his ego interfere when facing maiden overs.
Dahiya told reporters that he had an honest chat with Badoni about staying in the middle to score more runs and respecting the bowler's job.
