Brothers find rare Tom Brady card in $30 box of football cards

The one-of-a-kind collectible is headed to auction with a minimum valuation of $150,000.

Two brothers, Lucas Martell, 23, and Trevor Martell, 18, discovered a unique Tom Brady collectible after purchasing three $30 boxes of Topps NFL Bowman cards from a Target store on October 15, according to the Times of India.

While opening the third box in their car, the pair found a one-of-one Garbage Pail Kids SuperFractor card featuring Brady with gold lettering and a gold border. The card has estimated odds of one in 10.5 million.

Lucas Martell told the New Haven Register that they lost it when they saw the card. He also noted that a Drake Maye card worth approximately $200 was found directly behind the Brady collectible.

The card is being sent to Fanatics Collect’s Premier Auction, which runs from November 5 to November 14. The item has an estimated minimum value of $150,000 and has been insured for $350,000 for its transit to Los Angeles.

Under the auction agreement, Lucas will receive 115 per cent of the winning bid, which includes the sale price plus 75 per cent of the 20 per cent buyer's premium. Fanatics also provided an advance of up to half the minimum estimated value.

The brothers, who assisted by store owner Carmine Lorusso, intend to use the proceeds to pay medical bills and vehicle repairs, and eventually start a trading card business together.
