Miami prosecutor Jason Reding Quinones resigns from Justice Department
Quinones was the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida who oversaw investigations into criminal probes involving Donald Trump.
Jason Reding Quinones, the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, resigned from the Justice Department on Friday, according to a Times of India report.
Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed the departure in a post on X, stating that the department is grateful for the leadership provided by Quinones.
Quinones oversaw investigations into Donald Trump, including the federal probe into the handling of classified documents after 2021 and inquiries into 2016 campaign contacts with Russia. His office also brought criminal charges against former Cuban president Raul Castro.
People familiar with the matter told CNN that Quinones resigned under pressure from Justice Department leadership, despite his willingness to pursue some investigations sought by Trump.
The resignation follows the departure of Harmeet Dhillon, who led the Civil Rights Division on Thursday, and John Eisenberg, who headed the National Security Division on Friday.
These departures occur after Republicans lost control of Congress in the midterm elections held on Tuesday.
