Seafarer dies after explosion hits oil tanker in the Gulf
The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel was sailing towards Bahrain without cargo when the incident occurred on Thursday.
A seafarer died following an explosion on an oil products tanker in the Gulf on Thursday, November 5, according to a report by Siasat.
The incident, which is suspected to have been caused by a missile attack, occurred while the MT Velos Sapphire was sailing towards Bahrain. The vessel was not carrying any cargo at the time.
The Greek management company, Velos Tankers, stated on Friday, November 6, that the crew member was first thought to be missing but was later discovered dead on the ship.
Other crew members on board avoided injury and managed to put out a fire that started after the blast. No pollution or oil spills were reported.
The tanker has been moved to the Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Bahrain. Authorities are expected to start an investigation into the event.
The extent of the damage to the hull of the vessel is currently being assessed.
