Florence Coke was named a Local Hero after years of feeding children and pensioners in Stockport.
Florence Coke, a 71-year-old who runs a Caribbean takeaway in Stockport, Greater Manchester, has received the Pride of Britain This Morning Local Hero award. According to the Times of India, Coke, popularly known as Mama Flo, has spent several years providing free meals to children, pensioners, and those unable to afford food.
Coke has been living in the UK for more than 30 years. She stated that she began her daily routine around 4 am to prepare food before her restaurant opens.
The restaurant owner's efforts included providing meals to people during the COVID-19 pandemic and sending food parcels to elderly residents during the cost of living crisis. She also provides free meals to children during summer holidays to ensure they do not go hungry while schools are closed.
Coke said she was surprised by the recognition on ITV's This Morning, noting that her actions come from a desire to ensure nobody goes hungry. She added that the secret ingredient in her meals is love.
Her community work involves coordinating with individuals who transport food to elderly people who are unable to visit her restaurant. She also assists people who have recently been released from prison.
