Trump predicts big agreement with Russia after meeting Putin envoy

US President Donald Trump said a major deal could involve Ukraine and all of Europe following a White House meeting.

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a "big agreement" is coming that could involve more than Ukraine and potentially all of Europe. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump disclosed he held an unscheduled meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian presidential envoy, at the White House, according to reports by Bloomberg and WION.

Trump clarified that he did not meet with any Ukrainian representatives during the day. However, US First Lady Melania Trump hosted both Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House for a ceremony to mark a short-lived local ceasefire in Ukraine.

The Trump administration has increased efforts to end the war in recent weeks. US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are leading the negotiations. Kushner stated on X that US officials held productive discussions in Brussels on Thursday with Ukraine, NATO, and European partners regarding security guarantees and European security architecture.

The war in Ukraine has entered its fifth year. Trump had previously promised to end the full-scale Russian invasion on his first day in office.

In a separate development, Trump signed an order on Thursday designating the Oval Office as a national monument. He stated the proclamation would make it impossible for anyone to destroy the space.
