UP Chief Minister renames Ghaziabad Weaver Mart to Vishwakarma Expo and Convention Centre
The project will serve as a comprehensive platform for artisans, craftsmen and entrepreneurs from across Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that the Weaver Mart in Madhuban-Bapudham, Ghaziabad, be renamed the Vishwakarma Expo and Convention Centre, according to The Pioneer. The decision was made during his visit to Ghaziabad, where the Vice-Chairman of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) presented details on the project.
The GDA developed the project over approximately 38,340 square metres at an estimated cost of Rs 152 crore. While originally intended for weavers, the Chief Minister directed that the centre should be a platform for all artisans, craftsmen and entrepreneurs associated with traditional art forms across the state.
The complex includes retail outlets, exhibition galleries, large expo halls, a food court, an open-air theatre, and an auditorium with 560 seats. It also features 10 residential units for weavers and parking for approximately 1,000 cars.
The centre is located 6 kilometres from the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and 7 kilometres from the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. This location aims to provide access for exhibitors, traders and visitors from across the country.
The initiative intends to provide space for those involved in woodwork, metalwork, stone craft, pottery, textiles, carpets, Chikankari, Zari-Zardozi and terracotta. The Chief Minister's vision is to help artisans from different districts display and market their products to connect directly with buyers.
Most construction work is complete, and the Chief Minister is likely to inaugurate the project in the coming month.
