Punjab Vigilance Bureau asks ED to probe Bikram Majithia in money laundering case

The state agency has requested a central probe into an alleged Rs 736.96 crore financial network involving the former minister.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has requested the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to register a case and investigate a Rs 736.96 crore money laundering matter involving Akali leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, according to The Tribune.

A spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau stated that the investigation identified Majithia as the primary beneficiary and mastermind of a network used to generate, route, and conceal unaccounted wealth. The bureau alleged that the funds, which include money from drug sales, were moved through family members, associates, various companies, and foreign entities.

The investigation traced transactions through domestic companies and entities in Singapore and Cyprus. The bureau claims these funds were converted into assets such as aircraft, properties, and investments held by associates and family members, while Majithia remained the main beneficiary.

Majithia has denied the allegations and claimed that they will not stand trial in a court.

The move comes as the ED has previously registered cases against several AAP leaders, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Punjab Finance Minister Sanjeev Arora, who has been in judicial custody for several months.
