Street play in Anandabazar promotes HIV and AIDS awareness

The Tripura State AIDS Control Society is using theatre performances in public markets to educate people across North Tripura and Unakoti districts.

The Tripura State AIDS Control Society organised a street play at Anandabazar in the Yubarajnagar Block on Thursday to increase public knowledge about HIV and AIDS, according to Tripura Star News.

Members of the Dharmanagar-based Ichhedana theatre group and various students performed the play. Swarup Ghosh, the secretary of Ichhedana Theatre Group, directed the performance.

The production informed the public about how the disease spreads, its various symptoms, and ways to prevent infection. It also stressed the necessity of getting medical help and undergoing HIV testing if unusual symptoms appear.

Organisers aim to reach all sections of society to remove social stigma and misconceptions regarding the illness. The campaign seeks to encourage a compassionate approach toward those living with the disease.

The initiative is part of regular awareness programmes held in crowded areas and markets throughout the Unakoti and North Tripura districts. The ultimate goal of the organisers is to create an AIDS-free Tripura.
