Chennai residents plan diverse celebrations for Diwali
People in the city are opting for everything from house parties and road trips to quiet celebrations for pets.
Chennai residents are preparing for Diwali with a variety of plans ranging from festive parties and travel to traditional rituals, according to The Times of India.
Some residents are opting for social gatherings before the main festival. Arjun Ganesh, an IT professional from Velachery, said a group of 15 friends will host a house party on Saturday with a dress code, dinner, and dancing to avoid family commitments on Diwali day.
Others are planning to explore the city or travel. Nivedha, a marketing professional from Anna Nagar, said her group plans a late-night dinner and a drive to see festive lights. Shruti, an architect from Adyar, is driving to Pondicherry for a beach break, while Maheshwaran, an entrepreneur from Nungambakkam, is planning a road trip to Goa with friends.
Pet owners are focusing on safety during the festivities. Shreya, an HR professional from Thiruvanmiyur, said she will keep her dog indoors with toys and background sounds to manage anxiety caused by crackers.
Traditional celebrations continue for many families. Sathish Kumar, a production manager from T Nagar, said his family will use Sivakasi crackers under adult supervision. Lakshmi Narayanan, a homemaker from Mylapore, said her family will begin the day with prayers, new clothes, and a visit to a neighbourhood temple.
