Number of local terrorists in Kashmir dropped to single digits, says IG

Inspector General Sujit Kumar stated that providing an exact figure is difficult as terrorists remain in transit.

Inspector General (Kashmir) J&K Police Sujit Kumar said on Thursday that the number of local terrorists in the Kashmir Valley has dropped to single digits.

According to the Indian Express, Kumar noted that giving a fixed figure would be an exaggeration because terrorists remain in transit.

The IG stated that one local terrorist has orchestrated attacks in Anantnag and Kulgam with support from foreign terrorists.

Kumar said that militancy and the illicit narcotics trade are deeply intertwined, noting that a significant portion of the narcotics trade fuels or supports terrorism.

In a crackdown on drugs this year, J&K Police arrested over 1,900 people in 1,651 cases, seized over 1,700 kgs of contraband, and recovered one crore in cash.

Regarding National Highway traffic stoppages, Kumar said security protocols are based on previous terror incidents and the issue will be discussed with other security forces.
