Three labourers die in Hosur construction collapse

An under-construction concrete structure collapsed at a firm in the Sipcot Phase-1 area on Thursday evening.

Three labourers died and four others were injured after a concrete structure collapsed at a firm in the Sipcot Phase-1 area of Hosur on Thursday, according to The New Indian Express. The incident occurred at Excel Auto Products while workers were constructing an arch-shaped roof.

A portion of a concrete pillar supporting the roof fell on seven workers at approximately 3.40 pm. The deceased have been identified as M Srinivasan, R Kumaresan, and D Micheal. Four other workers, identified as V Ganesh, B Raju Mayak, M Rahith, and M Moorthy, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Hosur government hospital.

Krishnagiri Collector C Dineshkumar stated that the collapse may have been caused by poor structural integrity and negligent construction practices. He noted that the structure did not appear to comply with engineering principles. The collector has asked the Hosur Corporation Executive Engineer to inspect the site and submit a report.

The engineer in charge and several overseers have been detained in connection with the accident. SIPCOT police and fire services are using earthmovers to clear the debris. The collector and Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police G S Anitha visited the hospital to meet the injured and the families of the deceased.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a compensation of Rs 8 lakh each for the families of the three victims, to be provided from the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board fund.
