Newsrooms in Bulgaria and Ireland receive emailed bomb threats

The threats, sent by a person claiming to be Mikhail Andropov, follow a series of hoax messages that disrupted European flights.

Newsrooms in Bulgaria and Ireland received emailed bomb threats on Friday from an individual calling himself Mikhail Andropov, according to the Times of India.

The messages were sent to Bulgaria's Nova TV and the Irish public broadcaster RTE. RTE evacuated its offices and suspended its programming following the threat.

The emails, titled 'Message to the West', claimed the threats were a precursor to attacks on European transport. The British broadcaster Sky also reported receiving a security threat.

Spanish foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares stated that Europe seemed to be experiencing a type of psychological warfare and hybrid aggression.

While dozens of flights were affected since Tuesday, an Italian airport authority source said a Wizz Air flight from Prague to Rome was diverted to Venice on Friday.

Hungarian jets escorted airliners flying through Hungarian airspace, and defence minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi said Nato had ordered air patrols in the area.
