Brisbane house once filled with thousands of books heads to auction

The 405-square-metre Wynnum property was cleared of books, records and wildlife after the owner moved into care.

A three-bedroom house in the Brisbane suburb of Wynnum is being offered for auction after being cleared of thousands of books, music records and personal collections. According to The Times of India, the property at 66 Boxgrove Avenue fell into disrepair after the owner, a local musician and librarian, moved into care and later passed away.

The vacant home was occupied by pigeons nesting in the ceiling, wasps, and snakes in the yard. Clearing the residence was a substantial undertaking that took several months and involved volunteers and multiple teams to remove the accumulated belongings and address the animals.

A portion of the collection, which included vinyl records, CDs, and vintage toys, was donated to the University of Queensland, while other items were sent to relatives overseas. The house also suffered from a leaking roof and other signs of deterioration.

The property sits on a 405-square-metre elevated block near the Wynnum Golf Club and the Bayside Esplanade. While the post-war house has three bedrooms and one bathroom, it is being marketed primarily as a rebuilding or renovation project.

The listing agent, Zoe O'Connor of Ray White Bulimba, is handling the sale. The property is scheduled to go to auction on November 14, 2026, at The Calile Hotel in Brisbane.
