Ayodhya celebrates 10th Deepotsav with 30 lakh diyas along Saryu river
More than 30 lakh earthen lamps illuminated 56 ghats during the grand festival on Saturday.
Ayodhya celebrated the 10th edition of its Deepotsav festival on Saturday, with more than 30 lakh earthen lamps lighting up 56 ghats along the banks of the Saryu River, according to reports by Times of India, Hindustan Times and Moneycontrol.
The event featured cultural performances, light-and-sound shows, and stage acts based on episodes from the Ramayana. Thousands of devotees gathered at the ghats to witness the festivities, which include the illumination of Ram Ki Paidi ghat.
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the celebrations. The dignitaries participated in prayers and rituals dedicated to Lord Ram and Goddess Janaki.
Addressing a gathering at Ram Katha Park, Chief Minister Adityanath described the festival as a symbol of the city's transformation. He noted the development of infrastructure, including the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, and recalled the sacrifices made during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Adityanath criticised political leaders who had opposed the movement, stating that those who neglected or insulted devotees and saints should apologise. Governor Anandiben Patel noted that Ayodhya's growing popularity as a pilgrimage destination is creating economic opportunities in sectors such as hospitality, transport, and handicrafts.
Vice President Radhakrishnan described Ayodhya as a spiritual city and credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Adityanath for the development of the city and the Ram temple.
To manage the crowds, more than 2,500 police personnel and specialised security teams were deployed, while thousands of volunteers assisted in arranging the lamps.
