Maharashtra ATS arrests Naxalite with Rs 10 lakh bounty in Thane

Sanjay Sarju Yadav was apprehended in Dombivli after hiding for 10 days while working as a cow caretaker.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a wanted Naxalite in the Thane district on Saturday, according to reports by ThePrint, The Tribune and Telangana Today. Sanjay Sarju Yadav, 45, a resident of Devgaon village in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, was caught in the Khambalpada area of Thakurli in Dombivli.

Yadav, who is a zonal committee member of a banned Naxalite organisation, had been staying in Thakurli for 10 days to avoid the police. An official stated that he was employed as a cow caretaker at a bungalow in Khambalpada during this period.

The arrest followed intelligence and a tip-off from the Jharkhand police. Authorities recovered a mobile phone and some cash from the accused.

Defence advocate Manish Ujjainkar said Yadav was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and a warrant had been executed. While the advocate requested a two-day transit remand, a Thane court granted the police's request for a four-day transit remand.

The Jharkhand police will take Yadav back to his home state, where he is wanted for serious crimes.
