Uttar Pradesh increases dearness allowance for state employees and pensioners

The Yogi Adityanath government has raised the dearness allowance from 60 per cent to 63 per cent for 2.8 million individuals.

The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners from 60 per cent to 63 per cent, according to reports by Bhaskar English and The Hindu. The hike is effective retrospectively from July 1, 2026.

The decision benefits 1.6 million employees and 1.2 million pensioners. Beneficiaries also include staff from aided educational institutions, technical education institutions, local urban bodies, work-charged employees, and those on UGC pay scales.

Employees will receive the increased DA with their November salary. Arrears for the period from July to October will be credited to their PF accounts, while pensioners will have arrears deposited into their pension accounts.

The government previously increased the DA by 2 per cent in May, bringing the total increase for the year 2026 to 5 per cent. This follows a 30-day bonus announced two days ago, where eligible employees can receive a maximum of Rs 6,908 for the 2025–26 financial year.

The DA is a cost-of-living adjustment calculated as a percentage of basic salary to help salaries keep pace with inflation.
