J&K government approves 5 per cent annual increment for NHM staff

The benefit applies to eligible contractual employees across the Union Territory for the 2026-27 financial year.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved a 5 per cent yearly pay increase for eligible contractual workers under the National Health Mission (NHM) for the 2026-27 financial year, according to reports by Daily Excelsior and Kashmir Observer.

NHM Mission Director Athar Aamir Khan issued an order stating the increment covers staff at state, divisional, district, and block levels. This includes personnel working under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) and different disease control programmes.

The decision follows the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approving the NHM State Programme Implementation Plan (SPIP) 2026-27 on June 19, 2026. Health Minister Sakina Itoo stated on X that the move recognises the dedication of NHM employees in improving healthcare delivery.

Itoo added that the government is committed to the welfare of healthcare workers and building a stronger healthcare system under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Under the new rules, staff completing one year of service by March 31, 2026, will receive the raise from April 1, 2026. Those finishing one year between April 1 and September 30, 2026, will get the increment from October 1, 2026.

Employees completing one year of service after September 30, 2026, will see the benefit from April 1, 2027. Drawing and Disbursing Officers must verify performance and service history before granting the increment.
