Telangana Fire Services issues safety advisory ahead of Diwali

Director General Vikram Singh Mann has instructed officials to increase vigilance and ensure compliance with fire safety norms across the state.

Telangana Fire Services Director General Vikram Singh Mann on Friday directed officials to increase vigilance and enforce fire safety regulations ahead of Diwali, according to reports by Siasat and The Hindu. The department has issued 7,601 licences related to firecrackers across the state to manage the festive period.

As part of its safety efforts, the department held awareness programmes in schools throughout Telangana. These sessions were designed to teach students how to use firecrackers safely and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents and injuries.

Mann advised the public to buy firecrackers only from authorised vendors and to use them in open areas while keeping a safe distance. He also suggested that adults supervise children and keep water or firefighting equipment nearby.

The Director General appealed to citizens to avoid unsafe habits and work with the Fire Services Department to protect lives and property. This year, Diwali falls on November 8.

Separately, the Department of Plastic Surgery at PGIMER issued an advisory for safe celebrations. Dr Atul Parashar, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, advised people to avoid wearing loose or synthetic clothing and to wear shoes while bursting crackers.

Dr Parashar noted that crackers should be lit at an arm's length and that unexploded crackers should never be picked up. In the event of minor burns, he recommended pouring water over the area rather than applying toothpaste or blue ink.
