Gujarat Energy signs 10-year LNG supply pact with ADNOC
The agreement involves the procurement of up to 4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas starting from 2028.
Gujarat Energy announced on Friday that it has signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to procure up to 4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to reports from Mint, The Economic Times and The Hindu, the gas will be sourced from the international gas portfolio of XRG, which is ADNOC’s international investment company.
The agreement, which spans ten years, is set to begin in 2028. This marks ADNOC’s fifth LNG supply agreement in India, following previous arrangements with Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation, GAIL and Hindustan Petroleum.
Avantika Singh Aulakh, managing director of Gujarat Energy (GEL), said that natural gas is central to India's shift toward cleaner energy by boosting industrial efficiency and offering safer cooking fuel. She added that the partnership allows the companies to realise the power of their collaboration.
Rashid Al Mazrouei, chief marketing and origination officer (LNG) at ADNOC, said the deal strengthens the company's energy partnership with India. He noted that it represents the first sale of molecules from XRG’s international portfolio.
ADNOC’s global LNG marketing and trading platform, launched in July 2026, has also signed supply agreements with INPEX in Japan and Gulf Group in Thailand. The platform targets 47 mtpa of marketable LNG beyond 2030.
Gujarat Energy is backed by the government of Gujarat and operates a city gas distribution network across 44 districts in six states. The company supplies compressed natural gas for mobility and piped natural gas for cooking.
