Osmania General Hospital limits weekly duty for junior doctors and interns

The hospital administration cited mental health and clinical efficiency concerns when introducing the new 48-hour weekly working limit.

Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad has implemented a 48-hour weekly duty limit for all interns and junior residents, according to The Hindu.

The hospital Superintendent issued a circular instructing heads of departments (HODs) to restructure clinical rosters to meet these new norms.

The administration stated that the change aims to protect the physical well-being, mental health, and clinical efficiency of the medical staff.

Under the new schedule, staff will work two 12-hour shifts and four additional days with a maximum of six hours per shift.

The guidelines also mandate that junior doctors and interns receive one full, uninterrupted day off every week.

HODs must personally review and approve monthly departmental rosters and submit them to the Office of the Medical Superintendent by the 28th of each month.
