Bhopal sanitation workers end three-day strike after talks with Chief Minister

Workers resumed duties on Friday following assurances from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav regarding wage increases and service regularisation.

Sanitation workers in Bhopal called off their three-day strike and resumed work on Friday after discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, according to ANI. The workers had been protesting and had stopped working since the strike began on November 3.

The workers had demanded an increase in wages from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000, stating the current amount was insufficient for a family to manage expenses. They also sought the regularisation of services and benefits for all eligible workers.

Magan Jhanjhot, state president of the sanitation workers' organisation, said the workers raised their concerns directly with the Chief Minister. Jhanjhot noted that the Chief Minister has formed a committee, which includes representatives from the workers' organisation, to address the demands.

The Chief Minister has provided a one-month timeframe for initiating action on these issues. Jhanjhot stated that the workers succeeded in getting their demands met and thanked the Chief Minister and administrative officials.

Following the end of the strike, officials from the Bhopal district administration, led by District Collector Priyank Mishra, joined workers in clearing accumulated garbage, starting with Number 10 Market, as reported by The New Indian Express.
