Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi cancels Diwali celebrations at residence
The Chief Minister requested citizens to avoid bringing gifts and instead extend support to those affected by Cyclone Arnab and floods.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has cancelled the Diwali celebrations at his residence due to the damage and suffering caused by Cyclone Arnab and subsequent floods, according to the Free Press Journal.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that Majhi has also requested that people do not bring bouquets or gifts for the occasion.
In a post on X, the CMO said the Chief Minister has appealed to the public to remain sensitive to those in affected areas and to offer help to disaster victims.
Heavy rainfall and floods triggered by Cyclone Arnab have severely impacted the southern districts of the state, displacing thousands of people and causing extensive damage to crops and property.
This follows a previous instance where Majhi skipped Durga Puja celebrations and refrained from visiting pandals to show solidarity with farmers who lost crops to heavy rainfall in October.
