Eight more arrested for attacking BSF personnel in Tripura
The total number of arrests has reached 18 following an assault on border guards in Sepahijala district.
Police on Friday arrested eight more people for allegedly attacking Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to The New Indian Express. The new arrests bring the total number of individuals held in connection with the incident to 18.
The attack occurred on Monday near the Ashabari border outpost. A group of villagers reportedly assaulted the troops, vandalised a BSF vehicle, and attempted to snatch arms from the personnel.
The violence followed the detention of an individual suspected of smuggling. An assistant commandant and two other BSF personnel sustained injuries during the clash.
A senior police officer confirmed that the eight new arrests follow the earlier detention of 10 villagers who were directly involved in the November 2 incident.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a security review meeting on Thursday with officials from the state administration, police, BSF, CRPF, and Assam Rifles. During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the Ashabari incident.
Saha directed authorities to take strict legal action against those responsible. He also instructed officials to maintain peace by strengthening security and ensuring no tolerance for cross-border smuggling.
