Bihar to launch voluntary electricity subsidy contribution campaign on December 1

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the drive to encourage citizens to willingly support the state's electricity subsidy programme.

The Bihar government will begin a campaign on December 1 to encourage people to make voluntary contributions toward the electricity subsidy, according to ANI and The News Mill.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the initiative while speaking to reporters on Sunday. He stated that the appeal is similar to the Prime Minister's previous request for citizens to voluntarily relinquish LPG subsidies.

Under the current free electricity scheme, 1.92 crore families receive 125 units of free electricity every month. The state provides an annual subsidy of about Rs 10,000 for each of these families.

Choudhary noted that the scheme benefits households across different economic backgrounds. He said that under the NDA government, the programme is helping to light lamps in the homes of poor families.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Bihar on November 21 to mark one year of the NDA government in the state. Choudhary said several announcements and MoUs are expected during the visit, noting that many industrialists intend to participate.

Choudhary also praised the Prime Minister for visiting Bastar, Chhattisgarh, to celebrate Diwali with security forces. He said the country has become Naxal-free under the Prime Minister's leadership.
