India passenger vehicle retail sales fall 14.23 per cent in October 2026

Despite the year-on-year decline, the Hyundai Venue recorded its highest ever sales during the month.

India's passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 5,07,768 units in October 2026, according to a report by RushLane. This represents a 14.23 per cent year-on-year decline from the 5,92,032 units sold in October 2025, though it marks an 18.86 per cent month-on-month growth over September 2026.

The year-on-year decline was attributed to a shift in the festive calendar, as Dhanteras and Diwali fell in November this year. Dhanteras was celebrated on November 6, followed by Diwali on November 8, 2026.

Maruti Suzuki led the market with 2,11,996 units sold, holding a 41.75 per cent market share. Tata Motors secured the second position with 73,449 units, while Mahindra recorded 64,982 units.

Hyundai Motor recorded 58,099 units, a decrease from 69,458 units in October 2025. Kia India overtook Toyota, which saw sales dip to 28,727 units from 38,367 units in the previous year.

In the fuel segment, petrol/ethanol cars held a 41.60 per cent share, followed by CNG/LPG at 24.59 per cent and diesel at 16.57 per cent. Hybrid and electric vehicle market shares rose to 9.94 per cent and 7.38 per cent, respectively.

Year-to-date sales for the April-October 2026 period increased by 16.14 per cent to 30,68,353 units, up from 26,35,837 units during the same period last year.
