Maharashtra CM Fadnavis promises state support for farmers facing drought

The Chief Minister announced that Rs 5,000 has been deposited into the accounts of approximately 1.5 crore farmers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state government is supporting farmers during the current drought crisis. Speaking at a prayer meeting in Lohari Savanga village, Nagpur district, Fadnavis stated that the government is providing financial aid and various schemes to those affected.

According to reports from ANI and The News Mill, the Chief Minister noted that the lack of rain caused crop damage and losses. He said some areas are facing shortages of drinking water and fodder. Fadnavis mentioned that the state has previously helped lakhs of farmers through a farm loan waiver scheme.

To assist with Diwali celebrations, the government has transferred Rs 5,000 to the bank accounts of about 1.5 crore farmers, a process that is still ongoing. Fadnavis also said that electricity bills and outstanding arrears for farmers have been waived.

The Chief Minister stated that the government will undertake large-scale water conservation work and address health concerns in affected communities. His office added that additional relief schemes are planned for the near future.

The event in the Lohari Savanga Gram Panchayat assembly hall was attended by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs Charansingh Thakur, Ashish Deshmukh, and Dr Rajiv Potdar, among other officials.
