Muktsar's Gurnoor Brar leads Punjab's new pace bowling talent
The 26-year-old right-arm fast bowler has delivered strong performances during India's recent ODI series in New Zealand.
Right-arm fast bowler Gurnoor Brar, 26, from Muktsar, has emerged as a key player for India during the recent tour of New Zealand, according to The Tribune.
In the first ODI at Eden Park, Auckland, Brar took 3/44 as New Zealand were bowled out for 185. He also took a reflex catch off his own bowling to dismiss Tom Latham.
Brar improved his performance in the second ODI in Wellington on Saturday, taking 4/30 in 10 overs. He dismissed Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, and Nathan Smith to help bowl out the hosts for 134.
The Muktsar native made his international debut against Afghanistan in June, where he recorded a delivery of 148 kmph.
Other Punjab-born bowlers include 27-year-old Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm pacer who took 4/70 in Auckland and is the first Indian to take 100 T20I wickets. Additionally, 17-year-old Ishan Sood from Morinda took 3/18 against Nepal in the under-19 Asia Cup.
India captain Shubman Gill, who is from Fazilka, has backed Brar and the other pacers.
