Shimla police arrest two interstate chitta suppliers from Punjab
The arrests follow investigations into separate drug trafficking cases involving the recovery of chitta in the Shimla district.
Shimla police have arrested two interstate drug suppliers involved in chitta trafficking from Punjab, according to The Tribune.
In the first case, police arrested Balbir Singh, also known as Fauji, Tinu Pal Tinda, a 52-year-old resident of Nankhari, from Amritsar as he was planning to flee to Nepal.
Shimla (City) ASP Mehar Panwar said that on October 27, police arrested Resham Singh, a resident of Amritsar, with about 257 grams of chitta near Shoghi.
Panwar stated that investigations revealed the contraband was to be supplied to Balbir in Nankhari, where he is a major supplier dealing in commercial quantities.
The ASP noted that Balbir had six criminal cases registered against him, including four under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and two under the Excise Act.
In a second case registered on September 27, police arrested Rupesh, Shivam Verma, and Lali Kumar from Gumma with 50 grams of chitta.
The investigation established that the trio bought the drugs from Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gora or Gopi, a 35-year-old resident of Ludhiana, Punjab.
Panwar said Gurpreet is a history-sheeter with three criminal cases registered against him in Punjab. Further investigation is under way in both cases.
