Postmortem of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota conducted in Chandigarh

The father of the slain activist continues his hunger strike while demanding the transfer of the Mansa SSP.

The postmortem of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was conducted at PGIMER-Chandigarh on Saturday afternoon, according to The Times of India. The autopsy took place 26 days after Jhota was shot dead in Mansa on October 13.

The body was handed over to the family by the CBI following the completion of documentation. Jhota's family and the Parvinder Singh Jhota Insaf Committee agreed to the procedure after talks with Punjab government representatives, including Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.

Jhota's father, Bhim Singh, refused to end his indefinite hunger strike and is demanding the transfer of Mansa SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary. Kisan Ekta Chandigarh national president Satnam Singh Tanda said Singh has not eaten anything except water and refused to be force-fed.

The last rites for Jhota are scheduled to be performed on his farmland on Chakerian Road in Mansa on Sunday between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. Bhim Singh stated the cremation was scheduled on Diwali to encourage Punjab's youth to pledge to renounce drugs.

Agriculture Minister Khudian said he would speak with Singh after the cremation to address the issue of the SSP's transfer. On November 4, the government agreed to release those arrested during protests, cancel certain cases, and provide a government job for Jhota's wife.
