IndiGo flight returns to Bengaluru after hijacking note found on board
A passenger discovered a note in a toilet claiming the aircraft would be hijacked, leading to a security search at the airport.
An IndiGo flight travelling from Bengaluru to Lucknow returned to Kempegowda International Airport on Saturday evening after a note claiming a hijacking was found in a toilet, according to The Times of India.
Flight 6E 451, carrying 178 passengers, took off around 5.50pm. A passenger found the note in the toilet approximately 30 minutes after take-off and alerted the cabin crew.
The note stated, 'This plane is going to get hijacked exactly at 6.30'. Following the discovery, the pilot decided to return to the origin to conduct security checks.
Security agencies conducted a search of the aircraft lasting 90 minutes. A senior police officer told The Times of India that the note was declared a hoax after the search.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed a security threat was reported and said the relevant authorities were informed immediately. The airline stated it offered refreshments to passengers to minimise inconvenience.
The flight continued its journey to Lucknow later in the night.
