Sonepat police set up checkpoints to enforce GRAP Stage-I in NCR
Twelve special nakas have been established along the Sonepat-Delhi border to ensure compliance with CAQM directions starting November 1.
Sonepat police began enforcing Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and the winter action plan on Saturday, according to The Tribune. The move follows directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) for the National Capital Region.
Police Commissioner Mamta Singh said vehicles will undergo thorough inspections before being allowed to enter Delhi to ensure they follow CAQM directions. DCP Headquarters and Traffic Sonakshi Singh stated that SHOs and traffic officials have been instructed to regulate movement and enforce GRAP restrictions.
The police have established 12 special nakas at various locations, including the Singhu-Kundli Border flyover on NH-44, Safiabad, Lampur, and Shivpuri. Other checkpoints include the Ferozepur Bangar-Auchandi border, Jhinjholi Toll Plaza on NH-344P, Saboli, Singhu village road, KMP and KGP zero points, Jhinjholi village road, Jati Kalan-Bakhtawarpur, and the Nahri double canal bridge.
Officers will also conduct nakabandi on all routes from Sonepat district into Delhi. During inspections, police will check for valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, monitor overage petrol and diesel vehicles, and check for the illegal transport of firecrackers.
To prevent traffic jams, police aim to maintain smooth movement during inspections. A route diversion is also in place for vehicles heading to Delhi, as maintenance work on the NH-44 Panipat-Delhi carriageway flyover over Drain No. 8 requires traffic to use the service road.
