Iran leader orders unrestricted military response to potential attacks
Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei told commanders to meet any threat with an immediate and geographically unrestricted response.
Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered senior military commanders to respond to any threats with an immediate and geographically unrestricted reaction, according to reports from The Tribune and Hindustan Times.
The order followed a meeting between Khamenei and armed forces commanders amid possibilities of fresh escalation between Iran and the United States and Israel. Khamenei stated that if military or terrorist attacks resume, the Iranian people and armed forces will decide the timing and conditions for ending them.
Khamenei also instructed the military to strengthen defence technology and revise target lists to include various assets belonging to the American and Zionist enemies. He emphasised the need for intelligent combat readiness to achieve maximum deterrence.
US President Donald Trump said the conflict is not a typical war and that he expects it to be wrapped up soon, provided there is a guarantee against nuclear weapons. Trump noted that while there are talks, the situation remains difficult.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran has examined a message from US Vice President JD Vance. Araqchi told Al Jazeera that Iran's conditions for resuming talks include reducing US military presence in the region and lifting sanctions.
A preliminary draft framework for negotiations has been reported by Al Arabiya English. The draft proposes transferring Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile to a third country or reducing enrichment levels.
