Trump and Netanyahu hold talks as US evaluates Iran military options

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says diplomatic discussions with Iran are ongoing while the President considers further military action.

US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday as Washington evaluates the potential for renewed military operations against Iran, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The call occurred after Trump met with senior military officials earlier in the week to discuss strategic options for resuming major combat operations, Deccan Chronicle reported.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that while diplomatic talks with Iran have continued through various channels and intermediaries, President Trump has not yet decided on further military action.

Speaking in Georgia after a G20 meeting, Rubio said Washington remains open to a diplomatic solution that protects American national security and addresses Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Rubio accused Tehran of threatening maritime trade by targeting commercial vessels and supporting armed groups such as Hezbollah, the Houthis, and militias in Iraq.

He noted that US naval forces intercept drones and missiles almost every night, though petroleum transit volumes have remained similar to pre-conflict levels.
