Assam BJP reviews preparedness for upcoming council and municipal polls
State president Dilip Saikia met with newly appointed leadership in Guwahati to discuss organisational strength ahead of next month's elections.
The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reviewed its organisational readiness for upcoming municipal and autonomous council elections on Monday, according to The Assam Tribune.
State president Dilip Saikia held a meeting at the party headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan in Basistha, with the newly appointed in-charge and co-in-charges to discuss the polls scheduled for next month.
The elections include the Mising, Sonowal Kachari, Tiwa, and Moran-Matak autonomous councils, as well as municipal boards. Saikia said the party has made preparations for these polls and discussed issues regarding Sixth Schedule areas in Karbi Anglong.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin has appointed former Bihar Cabinet Minister Mangal Pandey as the Assam in-charge. Phangnon Konyak of Nagaland and Manoj Tigga of Alipurduar have been named co-in-charges.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed the new leadership, stating he believes the party's strength will grow. The meeting also addressed expanding the grassroots network and the proposed “Gantantra Bachao, Arajakota Hatao” campaign.
This review follows an October 28 meeting where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed land rights and settlement cases with representatives of the Moran, Matak, Mising, and Sonowal-Kachari communities.
