The number of voters in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur decreased by up to 13.24 per cent following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, according to data from The Assam Tribune.

Data released by the Election Commission (EC) and state chief electoral officers shows the total electorate across these five states fell from approximately 18.71 crore to 16.43 crore. This represents a net reduction of about 2.29 crore, or 12.2 per cent.

Uttar Pradesh recorded the largest decline, accounting for nearly 90 per cent of the total drop. In the state, electors moved from 15.44 crore before the SIR to 13.40 crore in the final rolls, a net loss of 2.04 crore or 13.24 per cent.

Punjab saw a net loss of 0.14 crore or 6.34 per cent, while Manipur's voter count fell by 0.013 crore or 6.33 per cent. Uttarakhand experienced a 10.07 per cent reduction, and Goa saw a decrease of 10.76 per cent.

The EC previously noted that assembly elections in these states might take place early next year. An ongoing special summary revision will allow eligible voters, including those turning 18 on or before January 1, to be included in the rolls.
