Centre and Assam sign MoU for international skills centre

The Skill India International Centre in Assam will offer industry-aligned training and international certifications to help local youth find overseas jobs.

The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Assam government exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a Skill India International Centre in Assam, according to The News Mill.

The agreement was signed during a conclave held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati on November 2, 2026. The centre will operate under a revised framework to provide training and access to global employment, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

During the Northeast Tourism & Hospitality Skill Conclave 2026, a cluster was declared under the PM-SETU initiative. This involves the ministry, the Assam government, the National Skill Development Corporation, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, and Oil India Limited.

Assam Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Biswajit Daimary stated that young people require skills that match industry needs to reach new jobs abroad. He noted the potential of the Northeast in tourism and hospitality.

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary emphasised the need to improve the skill development ecosystem in the region to create paths to international work. A workshop was also held to discuss global skill standards and employment routes.
