Compound wall of Nellore women's polytechnic college collapses
Heavy rainfall from Cyclone Murasu caused a tree to fall on the 40-year-old building's wall in Saraswathi Nagar.
The compound wall of the Government Polytechnic College for Women in Nellore's Saraswathi Nagar collapsed on Monday, November 2, 2026, according to The Hindu. The incident occurred during heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Murasu.
A large tree at the college broke and fell onto the wall. While a couple of cars parked next to the wall were damaged, no staff or students sustained injuries.
The college building is 40 years old. Parents of students have previously asked the A.P. Department of Technical Education to renovate the structure, but no action was taken because of a lack of budget.
S. Venkateswarulu, a parent of a student, said that the college and hostel buildings are currently in poor condition and unsafe for students. He stated that the government should undertake the construction of a new building.
