Gujarat increases daily meal allowance for mountaineering trainees to Rs 350
The state government's decision will benefit approximately 510 trainees and instructors at two major mountaineering centres starting in 2027.
The Gujarat government's Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department has decided to increase the daily meal allowance for instructors and trainees at annual mountaineering training camps, according to ANI.
The maximum daily allowance per person will rise from Rs 150 to Rs 350, representing an increase of Rs 200. These revised rates are set to take effect from April 1, 2027.
The decision affects around 510 young adventure enthusiasts training at two primary locations. The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Mountaineering Training Centre in Junagadh hosts about 230 trainees annually, while the State Mountaineering Institute in Mount Abu hosts approximately 280 trainees each year.
The state will incur an additional annual expenditure of Rs 11.10 lakh to support these camps. This includes Rs 3.40 lakh for the Junagadh centre and Rs 7.70 lakh for the Mount Abu centre.
More than 20 mountaineering training camps, involving both government and non-government organisations, are held throughout the year at these two facilities. Both centres operate under the Commissionerate of Youth Services and Cultural Activities.
