Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to visit Nepal on November 4-5

The two-day visit to Kathmandu aims to review bilateral relations and discuss regional and global matters of mutual interest.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will undertake a two-day official visit to Kathmandu on November 4 and 5, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This marks his first trip to Nepal since Prime Minister Balendra Shah assumed office in March following an election held under an interim government.

The MEA stated that the visit continues the tradition of high-level exchanges and will help enhance the comprehensive bilateral partnership between India and Nepal. According to The Hindu, the visit comes as Nepal's post-uprising government rolls out various reforms.

During the trip, Misri is expected to meet with Nepali Foreign Minister Amrit Bahadur Rai to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. He is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on high-level dignitaries in Kathmandu before returning to New Delhi on November 5.

Discussions are likely to include the appointment of a new Nepali Ambassador to India, as the embassy has been without an envoy for several months. The agenda may also cover India's assistance regarding the Bhote Koshi river disaster and a potential visit to India by Prime Minister Shah.

The visit follows recent security cooperation, where the Nepal Armed Police Force and India's Sashastra Seema Bal agreed to improve border management through technology like drones and scanners. Recent engagements have also focused on energy cooperation and cross-border transmission lines.
